CLEVELAND, Ohio — A fire at a restaurant and hall on the West Side rekindled after it was initially controlled, destroying the building and injuring a firefighter.
According to the city fire department, the blaze first started in the restaurant, reportedly Gargano’s, located near the intersection of West 25th Street and Marvin Avenue in the Clark- Fulton neighborhood. There were no injuries to people who were in the restaurant.
After getting the fire under control, a water-main break forced firefighters to relay water from distant fire hydrants, the department says. This allowed the fire to flare back up.
The fire caused the roof of the building to collapse and parapets to fall, the department says. A nearby gas station and other buildings were not damaged.
The firefighter’s injury was not specified but the department says it was minor. Eleven companies and nearly 50 firefighters were called to the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
